Are Obama's taxes really going to hit wealthy THAT hard?

No. An extra $5000 is nothing to people making between $250-500,000. I don't get why there is so much whining about it! The people just below that bracket would pay about an extra $500....and then below that...nothing extra. Stop whining about taxing the rich!

  1. It's as simple as you are missing the point. It doesn't solve a darn thing. Those making more than $250k a year comprise about 2-4% of the country - we already know from prior posts that you don't honestly think that an extra $5k from each of these families solves this spending problem? As I have said before - raise the taxes, I honestly don't care. You won't find me complaining one bit. I will gladly pay another $5,000 a year (honestly it's a bargain, I'd pay double that) and I'd write that check with a smile on my face if all of the entitlement programs were re-written to FIT today's budget. But those programs won't get re-written - so what does $5k really solve then? Nothing. It's laughable because the $5k pencils out to less then 2% of the deficit that Obama is projecting. Why not come to the table with a real solution Obama? Something that is worth talking about? I don't even get out of bed for a 2% trimming of the deficit much less write a $5,000 check for it to pander to your political views to win votes from the traditionally Democrat's base.

But then again, we have talked about this 100 times - I already know, you don't care that it doesn't solve the problem. As long as the world is full of peace, love, happiness, and entitlement programs you are a happy clam - why bother figuring out the checkbook and where the money is going to come from. We've been there before!

As a general rule, Democrats don't have a fiscal backbone or solutions. I consider myself a charitable man - but I wouldn't borrow just to fulfill that law from the scriptures. I didn't see that concept referenced in Joseph's pages you noted above. But who cares? Peace, love, and happiness sprinkled with entitlement programs can go a long way to making many American's happy and voting Democrat because they don't care where the money comes from - all they know is that they get it and are entitled to it.

Side note - I am all for the benefits outlined in Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, unemployment benefits, etc. But come on, enough is enough. If we had the funds to pay it - wonderful, let us all be happy. But if we don't have the funds to pay - ssshhhh, don't tell anyone, we will just keep cutting the checks each month and just stack it onto the national debt and pretend it doesn't exist. Haha, really? Come on people - wake up and smell the interest payments - which come in third as an annual expense line item behind defense and entitlement programs. Good heavens, if we didn't have the interest payments - can you imagine the fun entitlements we'd have as a society? We could start to make the case that transportation is a RIGHT to all American's - US made cars for everyone! But man, those pesky interest payments just don't let up - guess the car entitlement program will have to wait.

....or do they? Man, can you imagine if the Dem's added that to their platform?! You guys would be a shoe in! Free cars for American Drivers if you vote for the Dems! After all, isn't that all it takes to win votes - promise prosperity and financial security at no cost to you - people flock to those candidates! I know I did in middle school - whoever promised free soda and twice as long recess periods always won the student body president - nevermind if they forgot to ask, "can we even do this? can we afford this?" Forget about it! Just promise the world to those who don't have the world and the world will vote for you!

  2. Part 2 - this one was just a little long - just another way to say, "I love you!" After all, Taylor can't get a call back from me but you get all this!!

..... here is the rest .....

Does that help you understand why us fiscally minded, national debt interest paying pesky GOP people are "whining" about taxing the rich? Ask your Dem's to add "Presenting a real solution" to their official platform and you will see me stop whining real quick. Of course - it would be an even more embarrassing fubar then the one you guys got your feet into yesterday when a large contingency of your group had a fit over adding "God" to the official platform. Heavens, if we can't add Him to the platform without a rucus from the crowd, we have no hope of adding, "present a fiscally minded solution" to the platform - so don't worry, I am not holding my breath.

But I know, its easier to label us all as "greedy" people because it's a lot more fun. I prefer "responsible" people. I think it is a little more descriptive of where many of us stand - spending the money isn't the issue - but you guys like to make it sound like it is!

  3. I didn't read it all, but I will...I just can't right now. I think you are missing my point. This is a BETTER solution than taking money from education and healthcare in order to pay debt! Simple. You said yourself that people need to pay taxes...so why not the wealthy? I will read the rest later..just read the first few lines.

  4. Brian that is a long one. I will respond bit by bit..."Why not come out with a real solution, Obama?" He has and Republicans voiced their opinion when he was elected and that is the one promise they kept, that they will not work with Obama. His deficit proposal was rejected by republicans. Taxing the wealthy is just the beginning. But it is ridiculous to leave that out, when it is so simple and so easy to do. Any amount helps to get out of debt...but adding $0 does not...lets break it down numbers guy: $0 is it < or > $5000? Was that condescending? You are really smart and far better at math than I am...but some Republicans seem not only illiterate and narrow-minded but unable to do math as well.

  5. OK. Yes I have a big heart and I am charitable...but that doesn't mean I do not care about the deficit. I believe in staying out of debt. There are a few things that even our prophets have said are OK to be in debt for: 1. schooling 2. home mortgage. I agree with those. But some kids are not able to get credit bc their parents have bad credit or no credit. How then can they break the cycle? They cannot without a hand up. And who do I believe should do that? ANyone capable...including the government within reason...the government is founded to HELP Americans...not hinder. Read the quote from Joseph Smith on the top of my blog. It applies to the republican party more today than EVER before in history. The Republican party is no longer conservative. I do not understand why people cannot see that. I do not believe in an entitlement program. I believe in a country united and there for one another. If that is too mushy for you to stomach. Move. BC the America I love is not the America that Republicans see with dollar signs in their eyes. I do not think either party would be one of which Jesus Christ would sign up for. But I know many prophets are Democrats. As far as Dems having "no fiscal backbone"--how would you explain Clinton's 8 years ending on a surplus beginning in a hole? How would you explain Bush's irresponsible spending? Was Bush Jr. fiscally responsible to you?

  6. At BYU I studied the history of black Americans...their struggle with gaining their ground beneath them after slavery. And the hell they went through in their attempts in inner-city life. The chains of poverty are not broken just bc someone says, "OK I will go to work and be responsible." There are cultural barriers, physical barriers, mental barriers and important to this discussion, monetary barriers. Similarly, just like black people from the past, many people struggle with poverty (race unimportant) and the government I approve is one in which gives those responsible enough to desire an education and want to improve their life and break the chains of poverty to give them a hand...Via Pell Grants (in this example of higher education).

  7. Again you suggest that by cutting funding for welfare and the like it is more beneficial than taxing the wealthy. I agree with you that there needs to be and will be tightening done...there will be some programs that are unsuccessful and that can be trimmed or eliminated...no Democrat to my knowledge would attest that. You seem to be unaware that Obama's proposal would include eliminating programs. It is not all taxing the wealthy...that is just the easiest start. (I say for the millionth time). To jump from low interest rates on education to new cars is a big leap! We are talking about Obama...not Oprah, ya know! ha! So I have little response to that than to say...you have no idea what the Democratic party stands for....clearly. It is not a theory that all people need to dependent on the government...it is a theory that we can improve our country and our economy by educating and growing the middle class. The "trickle down effect" is a joke! Can we at least agree on that? If you make the middle class grow...the lower class shrinks and the economy is booming again. Simply put. But if you turn your back on the poor...the middle class threatening to sink into the lower class...you are turning your back on the economy and by extent the country by watching it burn itself up from the bottom. Romney would like to turn back time to Bush years...and start the economy over by letting it hit bottom! Clinton eloquently put but I will paraphrase, that Obama put the ground under the economy that was crashing to it's death. I shiver at the thought of Romney or Bush being the President at the time in which Obama took office to clean up the mess. Romney would like to see the economy hit the bottom and most certain death, like he said he would like to see the auto industry and the housing market. Another reason why business and picking up failed companies differs with a NATION. ha! In addition how would you explain the trillion of dollars the Rep candidates would like to spend on defense? Trillions more than the Pentagon said is necessary!?

  9. And are you kidding!? You ARE Republican! You all are all the same! Blaming the other guy of something your party is guilty of! hahahahahaha. "Just promise the world to those who don't have the world and the world will vote for you!"
    Too ironic.
The republicans say..."Wealthy keep your money! In fact we will expand our defense...and we will not raise taxes on the middle class. We will create jobs by crippling the middle class. We will all get wealthy! Bwahahaha. (Oh, but only the top 1% of us). But still you will be better off if you vote for us."

  10. Brian...I just read your bit about Taylor and getting back to him! That was funny. Sorry I didn't acknowledge that earlier. And even though I sense sarcasm in your "I love you." I do love you and your beautiful wife and kiddos! I hope you mean it...bc politics shouldn't define us and shouldn't separate us, right? It never would for me. We all love America...and that is what is important.

    1. I DO love you!! I think both of us think the same way about each other's political views and it will never change...neither will my love for you and your family!

  11. You would not believe how many business owners I talk to say the tax environment is the #1 cause for hesitation in hiring more workers. Do the Democrats brush that feeling under the rug? Wouldn't businesses hiring more people help the middle class? I think that is the trickle down approach you weren't sure of earlier.
