Redistribution...hot topic

Redistribute to lower classes and working families...or redistribute up...to the wealthy.
Basically the difference between Romney and Obama.

  1. No such thing as redistribute up to the wealthy - they already have it! :)

I bet you LOVE the estate tax! I bet that is your favorite, huh? Maybe you don't know how it works - a person works to earn a living, perhaps he or she invented a medical device that saved lives and made the inventor millions of dollars in the process. The inventor pays a 40% income tax on his earnings from his invention. AFTER he made his millions and kindly gave 40% back to the government under the redistribution strategy we have, he dies. At the time of his death, he had $10 million still sitting in his bank account. Under the Obama plan, his children would write a check for $5 million at the time of his death and give it to government. You make $18 million and keep $5 million? If it really takes a 72% tax in income/wealth and we still come up with a trillion dollar deficit - don't we have a spending problem not a tax the wealthy problem?

I know, I know - but he still has $5 million and all the middle class American's would love to have his tax problem of paying 72% of his income in taxes.

  2. Taxing the wealthy is a way to redistribute that money to government programs we need as a country....therefore it frees up spending from other areas that can be used to cut the deficit. I don't get why that is so horrible.
I am not concerned for the wealthy...I am concerned for the poor. If someone wants to cry to me about losing a few million out of several million...ya got the wrong person! I am more concerned for the children in the country not getting enough education to make it into a college...and those they do get accepted who cannot pay for college...and I am concerned for the many starving children...regardless of how many people you believe are charitable...there are 100's of children in UT who are hungry...aren't Utahans mostly LDS...and aren't they the people you tried to save from paying taxes who are then supposed to give back to the poor...but yet we still have a problem in our own state...consider this reply applicable for the other comment you made...I can't find about how you work as an accountant. I think there are great things available to people--tax credits which allow them to keep some of their money....but the people making in the millions who paid $0 last year...seems like they just had some good accountants like yourself, right? No big deal...but to the country it is a big deal...bc we need money...the country needs money and taxes are not the devil. They are how things get done...or else we have a credit problem...

    1. Yes! Taxing the wealthy is a way to redistribute the wealth to pay for government programs. Sure is. And you do already know that the wealthy are currently paying taxes. And you do already know that if we raise the taxes on the wealthy, that is closes the deficit gap to just over $1 trillion for 2013. Still waiting for the rest of yours and Obama's plan so our credit rating doesn't go down more. What is the plan there? It always feels like you don't understand that THAT is my problem. If not now, when and if we wait, whatever you are going to say will have go be much much larger of a sacrifice in the future the longer we ignore it. Don't say "when Clinton..." because that tiny little surplus, if that is what you are waiting for to come back, is even less of a drop in the bucket then your raised taxes are. Que the "I don't have a plan, that's why I elect officials so they can fix it!" Yep, cuz that works. That matters.

    2. And a clarifying point of my last comment "yep, cuz that works." Point being, your elected officials don't have any idea how to address the fiscal irresponsibility that the rating agencies are concerned about either - again, raise taxes on the wealthy and lets review a few billion worth of programs and cut some things is all they are saying. Hello people - after those tax increases it is still a trillion dollar deficit - and that is after Iraq war ended 18 months ago. And I know war has cost a lot - Book of Mormon and teachings of the last days give me NO hope that wars and rumors of wars are going to be reduced - shouldn't we at least budget for it then? In all my posts and comments - this is where I just don't get the democrat plans the most.

My prediction - you will do one of three things in response to these two posts:

      1. Not respond
      2. Respond however virtually ignore the elephant question in the room of "raise taxes and then Emily's plan to correct the deficit would be...."
      3. Respond and say "that is why I elect officials I can trust..." while ignoring the elephant question in the room of "what is the plan of those elected officials to correct the deficit?"

In all cases, my prediction is that you will divert attention away from the questions and the direct answers I am seeking of your plans or those of your elected officials by focusing on some wars Bush started and what his motives were and how they are so expensive and how the housing crisis has left many people struggling and how its all the GOP's fault. Or how Romney hasn't been any more specific so why do the democrats have to be specific.

And you know I have an opinion on those responsible for the housing crisis and mine is a shared responsibility between the morons buying homes, the banks, the securitization markets created under Freddie, Fannie and those elected officials who encouraged or passed laws to get Freddie and Fannie to incent banks to do those crazy things and those elected officials who didn't stop. I am SOOO done with everyone talking about the past - even if I concede and say it was ALL the GOP's fault and no one else played a role - who the crapola cares?! It was years ago - the problems our rating agencies are telling us they have with America is TODAY and it is related to our deficits and spending and Obama wants to get re-elected on the platform of what, specifically, in this area? Raise taxes, got it. Now what? Wars will continue, nations will fall, conflict is not going to end until Christ comes. Shouldn't we have a plan to pay for that stuff?
Saying, "well, but, see, he inherited 2 wars that were stupid and that is not his fault and those are expensive." Does that really solve the problem? No. You and I both KNOW we will see many more. Once we come to that realization isn't the next responsible thing to do to find a way to afford it? Not according to our democrats friends. They take the ostrich plan - stick our heads in the sand and hope people don't see our bodies and then it will all get better.

The Dems also must realize that fixing the economy so we have a larger tax via more income base isn't going to be enough to dig ourselves out of this issue for many many decades. And yet, again, no plan to fix it.

    3. Continuation - couldn't fit it all....

Okay, can't wait to see which of the three you pick: Ignore it all together or deflect away from a direct answer with any variety of smoke and mirrors. You know how I am so smart? Well, I am a GOP, first of all. :) But secondly, because I know a plan doesn't exist in your mind (because you would have said it already and you usually say, "I vote for elected officials I trust") and your elected officials you trust don't have a plan cuz they would have said it already. So - I vote you will respond, cuz that is just the way you are, which I love...and you will opt for a deflection away from the facts, away from solutions, stick your head in the sand, and blame the GOP for all the sins of the past that Obama is trying to clean up one by one, again with no plan on the deficit to eliminate it. All I am saying as you choose to take that route, and you will, it is no different than a new CEO hired to make a turn around on a failing company being ousted a few years later if they are unable to make meaningful changes. Maybe Obama gets re-elected again - the White House will certainly shift to GOP in 2016 - afterall, its the pattern of a century. A political party gets a few terms in the White House and then it shifts. We will be looking for a new CEO who no longer says, "I inherited a mess...cut me some slack."

And you know what is odd about the fact that I am right about how you will respond - you are totally okay with no plan personally, no plan from the Dems specificially to fix it. Means to me you are totally comfortable adding more and more debt to our books from which interest has to be paid - it won't be too long before the interest becomes unbearable...if it hasn't already.

Drum role, please! How will she respond! And the winner is....Brian! He guessed right!

    4. Brian...dear Brian. Your comments reek of disdain...so if you are getting over heated maybe we should scale it back. I think I posted about Dalin H. Oaks and his recent talk about keeping debates and discussions of a political nature "civil." I understand that you are passionate and that is a good thing...but via the internet you don't want to come off as someone you aren't ESPECIALLY over politics.
I hope you are not getting over heated...it just sounds like you are. You seem to be overly angry, so take a deep breath. It will be OK...my blog does not represent Obama or anyone running for an elected office...I know you really want to direct your anger somewhere! haha I remember those feeling all too well when Bush was in office....(do I need to clarify what this blog is for again? :)) But I am happy to respond.
I am ALL about moving forward! But your comments and other Republicans make it hard for me not to remind them of the past and why I do not want another Republican to take us BACK TO THE PAST. All the old policies that got us to where we are today. That is why people tend to look at the past in elections. I would rather move forward!
First, deficit reduction will not happen over night...many of the plans that have been proposed by either side take years to have the full extent of them reached...it is a slow process. (Another thing that drives me crazy about critics of Obama--they can't see that things take time). Raising taxes on the wealthy is something that has been done in the past--it is not a new and cruel idea! That is what taxes are for...it is silly that people and especially Republicans think that taxes are the devil. Furthermore it outrages me that people try to defend the wealthy with no thought about how other plans would affect the poor. Kick them while their down why don't ya, Republicans! I think people just choose not to see what they don't want to see. But if you believe in the "trickle down effect" and how that indirectly improves life for everyone, you should not close your eyes to how Social Security (and raising the age for eligibility) or cutting programs that help the poor in all the forms (that republicans in congress have proposed) are an indirectly going to affect the poor.
If you want the details on Obama's plans proposed this year (or the April 2011 plan which was rejected bc Republicans are so scared of those tax increases and their financial supporters not backing them anymore if they agree to those tax increases--it is corrupt) ...there are articles all over the internet that will answer your questions about Obama's plan. I will find some and list them on the side bar of my blog under campaign links...if that helps you. There is far too much for me to dissect it for you and type it out in a comment! Who has the time for that?! But I hope you know and have read them, and are just saying that you disagree by asking for me to re-hash them...in a threatening tone asking me to tell you Obama's plan. haha. (to be continued)

    5. I think America has a really good feel for what Obama would like to get done...what his plans have been in the past and what we as Democrats hope to accomplish once Republicans see no light at the end of the tunnel to "get Obama out" of office once the election is over...and they will no longer be motivated by just that...and maybe our elected officials will get back to work and work for those who elected them. (Also, maybe we can take Congress back as Democrats--and not depend on these prideful men to even be capable of putting their egos aside for the good of the masses).
But you are so upset about not knowing every detail of Obama's plans and I agree with that. I would like to know more...they just won't tell us that info in a campaign! They just don't tell you which programs are to be cut, etc. You have to look at what he has proposed and been adamant about in the past.
As far as Romney's plans...who the heck has any idea!!! My friend sent me an email about why she supported Romney and mostly it was based on social issues and that is fine...but she didn't know what his plans for the deficit or for taxes is. Does anyone know?
You have to realize that both sides need to clarify their plans...and I think we will hear a lot more about them in both the debates and closer to election time. I hope, anyway. It ought to be interesting.
Let me guess...not good enough for you?! You wanted me to delve into every single thing the President proposes and has proposed in the past.
I am not "comfortable adding more and more debt" to our country...it isn't how I live my life...it isn't how I would like our country to function---Obama does not want that for our country...Democrats do not want this! But if you don't realize the expenses our country has had...I mean, Brian you are smart, right? Other than being a Republican...right? You know how expensive wars are, right? And that debt takes time to pay off? I don't think Romney understands that bc he has never been poor and has never had a problem with debt or medical problems he couldn't pay for--even though Ann Romney has had more than her share of health scares THEY ARE MILLIONAIRES. They can pay for it. Other people live paycheck to paycheck and understand that when you are in debt for school or medical problems...it takes time to be able to pay those things off when you have no extra money as it is. That is our country right now. We are poor and trying to pay of the expenses of war and debt that has accumulated for years. It takes time! But every little bit--even a mere $1 trillion helps. And the fact that you cannot succeed that taxes are just the start of the plan is ridiculous, to me...as much as Romney not giving any plan AT ALL except to say "tax cuts! That is the answer." I loved Obama's jab at Romney/Ryan plan to just provide tax cuts to the solution to any problem. "Give some tax cuts and roll back some regulation and call me in the morning."

    6. I have to say...I have read online about Romney/Ryan plan...but I have not heard it from Romney...and I don't understand how they justify it and tell people that it will help our country...that is what I mean by not knowing their plan! I realize they have one out there...but I don't know why Romney is taking so long to take the time to explain it (other than I understand how Media is and that it is all about sound bites). I, too, would like to hear more on both plans.

    7. You never have to worry about me being emotional, frustrated, mad, angry, at all. Just ask Ash, I am usually laughing when I am reading your posts! Given the fact that I doubt you and I will ever meet face to face to talk about politics verbally, the written word is my only method to articulate my thoughts - so I "bold" or "capitalize" words to show emphasis, not anger. I use examples and funny phrases to get a point across not because I am at my whit's end.

And yes, I do know that war's are expensive and I also know that in the long run, they will continue. We ought not look at wars as an extraordinary expense that occurs for a defined period of time and then we can "cut the spending related to the war" and chalk it up as savings. What's the plan the next time we have a war? Just keep financing it, I presume.

      My primary points are that:

      1. Taxes are good. Taxes have a purpose. They are not of the devil.
      2. Sometimes we find ourselves in a situation, like today, where the spending of entitlement programs, defense, and interest payments are consuming too much of our tax dollar - to the extent that "raising taxes" and "cutting a few programs" isn't going to solve our fiscal issues. Yes it takes time - I do get that. I hate how when we run into Iraq that we don't balance the budget and say, "okay, we all feel like Iraq is where we need to be. Congressional leaders, how would you like to pay for that?"

As far wars, yes, they cost a ton. Look at Obama's first item of business after the Lybia attack - he sent some elite fighters over their to protect our interests. That was the right thing for him to do. But it's going to cost money. Was it in the budget? Probably not. My point being that the wars and the Lybia's are going to happen - no one budgets for it - it just results in "let's spend more." How do you handle things like this in your house? Don't you save and plan for the unexpected? In our plans we are talking about, we aren't willing to cut spending big enough to fund the future wars we know will come. And we all know raising the taxes isn't enough.

Hurricane Katrina cost us billions of dollars. We did the right thing to help them out. Using this as a different example, do we know enough about weather patterns to know that this will happen often enough - yet, it is not budgeted. We don't come together as leaders and say, "Looks like the South needs a little help from us - we need to pay for it some how - we do not want to fund it via debt, so what is the plan?" Nope, we just write the checks, increase deficit and move on. And yes, I am speaking to both parties.

Just my non-partisan frustration. I know Blue and Red share in those responsbilities. It's why I wish I could be elected and start addressing these things. Until then, because I am too lazy to start my own blog and you won't give me your password for this one, I just have to keep replying to your posts.

    8. I don't see anything here I disagree with...so I am confused. :) I am glad you are not upset. Phew. I really thought you were. :) But you are just extremely sarcastic and I think the Browns have been rubbing off on you over the years. I am sarcastic, too...don't get me wrong...but your comments were DRIPPING with it...oozing with it. Glad it was all in fun, though. :)
The only thing I would disagree with was the horrendous response of the Presidential office to Hurricane Katrina! And talk about a need for better organization and planning. It is shocking how badly that was taken care of...if you can even say that it was taken care of.
I agree there needs to be an emergency fund for the government.
I agree that many programs need to be cut and Obama has done that...or proposed that--though many were rejected by the "Reds."
I feel like he has more time to focus on this now that things are balancing out...the economy-- housing and stock markets are rebounding (not there, but rebounding)...and though defense is always there on his mind but there is definitely some freed up time in that way to be able to focus on other projects and push other things through--including the plans he has addressed wanting to do in cutting spending.
haha. I am not refusing to give you the password--well, kinda...I was going to do it...but I like it how it is, to be honest. If you want to co-author a separate one, I will with you. But this has become my place to vent and I don't want someone trampling on my cyber space haven. :)

    9. Brian...I think you won't be happy until you do get into politics...so I think you should! And though I will support you emotionally and such...I will not vote for you, most likely! The other guy would have to be pretty bad! :) haha. JK! I would give ya a chance...especially locally! BC the Dems aren't really Dems in UT! So everything is fair game! Plus, I was willing to give Romney a chance in the beginning...but that didn't last long. That would be so crazy if you got into politics...but crazy in a funny..."haha remember our blog arguments" kind of crazy. Not crazy in the "you are out of your mind" kind of crazy. Then I could start a new blog if you convince me you are the guy to vote for and blog address would be something like "1 Mormon democrat for 1 Mormon republican only this 1 time.blogspot.com" Too long? :)

  3. Yes...it is redistributing if you want to take away programs or let them die...in the case of Medicare...or repeal Obamacare...that is taking essentially MONEY away from people in the lower brackets and still providing tax cuts for the wealthy...and lowering their responsibility to pay back into the system which allowed them to make such progress and wealth!
Democrats are not against capitalism...they are against a country of only the very rich and the very poor...just like you see in South America...and other countries...
